A new perfume marketed to Palestinian men and women in Gaza was released this Saturday, celebrating the Gazan victory over Israel in the recent “Operation Pillars of Defense”. The perfume is named after a missile designed by Hamas that was fired at Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
A local cosmetics company owned by Shadi Adwan named the perfume M-75. Adwan told the Palestinian daily Al-Resalah that the name was a tribute to “honor the victory of the Palestinian people and the resistance during the eight-day war.”

He continued, “The fragrance is pleasant and attractive, like the missiles of the Palestinian resistance, and especially the M-75.” He added that the goal was to “remind citizens of the victory wherever they may be, even in China.”
Marketers have yet to see whether the perfume is successful, and some are worried that the exorbitant price could put off potential purchasers in Gaza. Both the male and female versions of the scent are over twice the price of other perfumes marketed in the area, which Adwan explains is because of the use of special ingredients that are “worthy of the victory in the Gaza Strip.”
The scent for men has hints of sea, lime blossom, and citrus, while the women’s scent is considered “floral” with notes of rose, jasmine, and basil. The men’s bottle is black and green, while the women’s is black and pink.
This is not the first time that wars with Israel have been used to market new perfumes. In 2006, a Lebanese perfume called ‘Resistance Perfume’ was released. At that time, Lebanese local paper The Daily Star wrote, “If you’ve ever wondered what resistance smells like, then try a dab of ‘Resistance Perfume,’ which comes ‘exclusively’ with a political message and a picture of Hezbollah’s secretary general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.”
